Unstable and business critical

While on the Portfolio Analysis project

for a major Automobile manufacturer USA

... and there it was, the IT wasteland, vast and massive

littered with rusting business systems, treacherous and incisive

applications with jagged edges, out of place and looking lost

threatening to wither and collapse in a now alien host

business critical but frail, trapped in its own complexity

they all look so jolly and fine, painted in psychedelic colors

yeah! nice production support, if only a paint job

the developers in the army line with hatchets, grin!

unrelenting and ruthless, man goes on ceaselessly

and because it is possible, automating and re engineering tirelessly,

complexity triples with every new release, is that the systems fate?

software must be the only place where entropy grows at this rate

now I see a much re engineered application. Smooth till you look inside

deep ravines, treacherous caves and skeletons of commented code

if ever there is something like that, this is it - the mark of evil!
